There’s a whole world of writing tools out there to help you. Here are some of my favorites for nonfiction writers.
- Strunk and White. Of course.
- A good dictionary, such as Merriam-Webster. Pick your favorite and stick to it.
- Copyblogger or a short course on copywriting, particularly if you are writing something instructional. Even if it’s just to learn how to write headings, it will be worth it.
- Your publisher will use a style guide, such as the Chicago Manual of Style. It’s not necessary for you to be an expert on it; your editor will take plenty of satisfaction in making sure your manuscript conforms to it. But if you’re curious, take a peek.
